LCA is a method of evaluating the overall environmental impact of a product through every phase of its life. Life Cycle Assessment assesses all the environmental impacts associated with extraction of raw materials, processing, production, manufacturing, and transport.
This LCA data also supports your legislative and CSR requirements, as well as enable you to communicate the importance of the environment for your brand, to your customers.
The Life Cycle Assessment was calculated from cradle-to-gate, meaning that all materials, energies, and processes occurring up until the point of leaving our factory gate are included.
Primary data collected onsite included the mass of materials used and waste produced, excess packaging used, and the energetic requirements of the machinery during manufacturing. The upstream distance and method of transportation for materials was also calculated. Where primary data was not available, secondary data via peer-reviewed academic research was used
Collected mass and energy data, was then coupled with lifecycle inventory data from Ecoinvent to calculate the specific lifecycle impact of each product.
This methodology allows us to calculate the exact product footprint, as well as identify hotspots, and can direct our ongoing reduction measures
Biogenic Carbon and End-of-Life impacts were both calculated and presented alongside the product footprint.
The following Lifecycle Assessment data allows you to understand the environmental impact that your packaging choices will have. Click on each tab for the relevant information.
Each LCA report suggests the best method for disposal for each product. The End-Of-Life (EOL) impact has been calculated for this recommended method of disposal. This refers to the impact associated with all processes following the use of a product, up to the cut-off point of our model.
EOL considers the best way to dispose of a product, such as through local waste collection, kerbside recycling, or at recycling points such as those within supermarkets.
For any products disposed through municipal waste collection, the waste treatment was split 35.35% to landfill and 64.65% to incineration. This is based upon UK Government statistics for UK waste collection and treatment from household sources
Due to the cut-off model approach taken for the LCA calculations, the impact and benefits of recycling are allocated to the production of the following product of which the recycled material is a material input.
For both waste streams it was assumed a waste collection vehicle will travel a distance of 50km before reaching the treatment facility, the emissions associated with this activity were included in the overall EOL consideration
Icertech are now members of the OPRL (On Pack Recycling Labels), this allows us to print a well-recognised label onto our products, indicating the simple, recommended disposal method for the product, on our packaging.
We encourage our customers to also sign up to the OPRL today and incorporate the logo on your custom artwork. Please contact us to discuss how we can support you on this.
