The environment is at the heart of everything we do at Icertech. One of the key people in setting goals, monitoring and managing accreditation is our QEHS manager, Natalie.
Hi, I’m Natalie, the Quality, Environment, Health and Safety Manager at Icertech. I started at the company in 2007, starting as an Admin assistant, and working in many different roles over the years, gaining a deep understanding of packaging, and our operation. In my current role, I’m responsible for managing the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and FSC Management systems, showing our commitment to our staff and the environment.
As QEHS manager I identify how our operations impact the environment, and work with my colleagues and directors to implement measures to minimize those impacts. I also keep a close eye on our utility usage, and waste generated onsite; making changes to reduce the footprint associated with both. I have set and monitor progress towards our environmental objectives, following the roadmap to our key environmental goals.
We all have a responsibility for the environment, reducing our individual use, and footprint, and this is no different at Icertech, we take this environmental challenge seriously, and strive to achieve more than the baseline required by environmental regulations. So far, we have had success in cutting our general waste generated by 52% and our recycling waste by 37%. This has come from better recycling, and reusing materials whenever we can. We have reduced our onsite energy consumption by 7% over the last year, despite being more productive than ever. This has come from smart practices such as turning machines, lights, and computers off when not in use. Furthermore, we have installed solar panels, with around 60% of all energy used onsite now being generated by them.
We are currently undergoing a complete organisational carbon footprint, which will create a baseline from which we can reduce our company footprint. As part of our commitment to sustainability we are also continually developing new products that will be fully kerbside recyclable, and we work closely with our suppliers to do this. However, Icertech’s focus is not just environmental. We also invest into the local community, supporting local charities and sports teams, and partaking in staff volunteer days.
In summary, being the QEHS manager at Icertech is more than just a job, it is a personal mission to make a positive impact on our environment and community. We are all in this journey together.
